On the 29th of December 2023the Greek Government has announced the procedures of the applications to obtain e-charter permission for foreign yachts. There are two types of e-charter permission:
Charter permission for charter contacts carried out entirely within the Greek waters.
Charter permission Plus for charter contacts starting in the Greek waters and ending out of Greece or starting out of Greece and ending in the Greek waters.
The eligible yachts are commercial foreign flagged boats over 35m in length overall which are constructed from any material except wood. The maximum duration of e-charter permission is 28 days, but the Government is planning to extend this duration in the future.
The advantages of the e-charter permission are:
The application can be made by the owner of the boat, his legal representative, or his agent abroad or inside Greece, but of course will need Fiscal representative in Greece for the VAT submission and payments.
The time needed is short and the procedure is not that complicated like for the three-year charter permission.
The cost is not high, and the procedure is quick.
The disadvantages are:
The 28 days per year probably is not enough for a popular charter boat.
The VAT payment (70% on the application and 30% later) of the charter amount is a little bit complicated and needs a Greek accountant with knowledge and experience.
Except the old fees called TEPAI ( 8 euros per meter per month ), there are additional fees ΤEPADAH according to the length and the gross tonnage.
